International Slow Art Day
Date: April 14, 2018 Time: 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Event Description Did you realize that the average viewer spends only 10 seconds in front of a work of art? Join us for the afternoon as we slow it down so you can really get to know us. Clear your mind and check your phone at the door. Take part in all or some of the following activities: 11-11:30am – Warm-Up: Guided Insight Exercises Warm up with several insight exercises that will help clear distractions and set your intentions for decelerating your pace. 11:30am-12pm – Reflective Walking Tour Walk silently through the museum’s galleries to hone your sensory perception skills as you become more alert to the various contexts in which we experience art objects. 12-1pm – Slow Viewing Tours Spend an hour, as a group and individually, to consider a single work of art. 1-2pm – Slow Art Sip + Sip Follow your slow art experience with a discussion over coffee, and consider how you might apply slow art principles the next time you visit the museum. Create a personal mantra to remind yourself to keep it slow.
