By advance reservation only. Visit for more info. Bach’s Birthday Bash is The Berkshire Bach Society’s annual commemoration of the birth of J.S. Bach on March 21, 1685. The event pays tribute to the role Bach played in developing performers and composers for the next generation. By design, the celebration combines a recital by young musicians from elite music schools with a buffet dinner of German gourmet specialties (including sweets!) and post-dinner musical games. This year’s recitalists are violinist Natalie Rose Kress, currently a student in the Historical Performance Program at The Juilliard School, and harpsichordist Elena Zamolodchikova, a graduate of Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Conservatory and Juilliard in historical keyboard performance. The recital includes G.P. Telemann’s Fantasia for Solo Violin in D Major, TWV 40:23, Bach’s French Suite No. 5 in G Major, BWV 816, and Antonio Vivaldi’s Sonata for Violin in D Major, RV 10. Both Telemann and Vivaldi were important to Bach: Telemann, four years older, was a longstanding friend, the godfather and namesake to Bach’s son, C.P.E, and the only German contemporary who could match Bach in musical facility and sophistication. Vivaldi was Bach’s favorite Italian composer, and he studied his works carefully, finding in them an approach that seems to have helped him organize and structure his own musical thoughts. The Berkshire Bach Society is dedicated to presenting the full range of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach and other baroque composers who contributed to or benefited from Bach’s musical genius. The Society engages the best musicians available from near and far and creates programming which is meant to inform, inspire and elevate audiences’ appreciation for this timeless body of music. Join the Berkshire Bach Society for a fun-filled special event that loosely re-creates a Baroque dinner concert of the sort held in Leipzig and elsewhere in Germany some three hundred years ago. Happy 335th birthday, Johann Sebastian!
